Warc Africa

Warc has been in operation in West Africa for over ten years. Founded in Sierra Leone, Warc expanded its operations to Ghana in 2019 and over this time has continued to develop its business model to solve poverty and hunger at scale whilst seeking financial sustainability. Warc aims to unlock the potential of farmers by removing barriers and offering inputs as a service, knowledge building and access to markets.

Small Foundation has been supporting Warc’s expansion in Ghana since 2020.

Our partnership and learning

Support from Small Foundation allowed for Warc’s growth, both from an ability to build our team and ensure we had the right people in the field, and to support our processes and ideas. Working in partnership with Small Foundation also allowed us to acquire the machine assets that were needed to expand our work.

Through this partnership we were able to refine our model, which had been born in Sierra Leone, and put it into practice in Ghana. We piloted our work with 150-200 farmers in the Brong-Ahafo region, where we saw results of farmers with $600-700 net income gain in a single season on two acres.

This was made possible through the partnership because Small Foundation’s support provided us with the ability to extend that working capital to smallholder farmers and develop our team. We have since continued to refine the model significantly, and have now been able to scale, ensuring financial sustainability for farmers and for ourselves. Warc is currently working with over 3000 farmers in the Upper West region of Ghana.”
