School of International Futures

School of International Futures (SOIF) is a non-profit consultancy that helps leaders in business, government and the third sector use foresight (ordered long-term thinking) to explore alternative futures.

Small Foundation supported the development of the African Futures Leadership Series (AFLS), an initiative of SOIF’s Next Generation Foresight Practitioners (NGFP) Network in Africa.

Our partnership and learning

“Through our partnership with Small Foundation, we were able to develop the AFLS, working with a group of African leaders across the continent over a 12-month period. What emerged were a series of clusters around urban, digital and rural futures that designed projects that they could take forward.

The clusters continue to thrive following the programme. The rural futures cluster is engaging farmers across four countries with the intention of influencing policy. The urban futures cluster is working to tackle air pollution in Accra, Ghana. The digital futures cluster has developed a platform to showcase visions for responsible technology in Africa’s future and is building a case to inform data governance approaches in Kenya and Nigeria.

Learnings from this programme are also now informing our network design moving forward.”
